Why warm neutrals win
Cool grays photograph well and live poorly. A warm neutral holds onto whatever light your room gets and gives it back at 6pm.

- Soft cream — the safest whole-home base.
- Oat — a half-shade deeper; forgiving in hallways.
- Warm greige — for rooms with a lot of glass.
- Clay — a blush-adjacent neutral for bedrooms.

Testing properly
Paint a two-foot square, not a swatch, and look at it at 9am, 2pm and 8pm. North-facing rooms will pull every color cooler, so go one step warmer than you think.
Trim rule
Never pair a warm wall with a bright white trim. Use a warm off-white, or paint trim the same color at a higher sheen.
